Woodfire Workshop
Tara Wilson Pottery
April 22-28, 2012
This seven day workshop will focus on the fundamentals of woodfirng. Participants will bring high fire bisque ware to be glazed and fired in Tara’s train kiln. Throughout the hands-on workshop a variety of woodfiring topics will be discussed, from surface treatments and stacking methods, to firing and cooling strategies. During the cooling phase of the firing Tara will demonstrate her building techniques with an option of studio and gallery visits around Helena, MT. The cost of the workshop is $780 and will include glazes, wadding and other materials needed for the firing. The cost also includes a full meal plan featuring delicious homemade meals with a focus on local ingredients .
Schedule
Day 1, April 22, 4pm workshop begins, glaze
Day 2, load kiln and begin firing
Day 3, fire
Day 4, finish firing by mid-afternoon
Day 5, demos / studio visits
Day 6, demos / studio visits
Day 7, Aprill 28, unload kiln, finish by noon
Day 5 and 6 will include demonstrations of Tara's throwing and altering techniques. There will also be oportunities for discussion of personal work and visits to Helena's museums, galleries, and artist studios, such as The Hotler Museum of Art, and The Archie Bray Foundation. Tara's studio is situated on a scenic country road with easy access to Helena's extensive trail network. The studio is located approximatley 8 miles from the unique western town of Helena which offfers eclectic businesses, historic architechture, and interesting history.
